The Native Americans were first called American Indians because when Christopher Columbus landed on America he thought he was in India! So he called them Indians and the name has stuck ever since! Christopher was not all wrong though because scientists believe that the Native Americans traveled over a land bridge that connected Asia to America over 10,000 years ago!
The Native Americans split in to different tribes and there were loads of them! The Plains Indians lived in the middle with other tribes like Comanche and Arapaho! The Cherokee and the Seminole tribes live in the southeast area of America with other tribes as well.
Some Native Americans lived in Teepees. They were build with long poles that were tied together at the top and then they covered it with animal skin mostly buffalo skin!
You might have heard of the story Pocahontas? Well she was an American Indian! She is very well known and they made a movie about her! She met a man named Captain John Smith and she saved his live when he came to visit! She also warned the settlers that her father and his warriors were going to attack. She fell in love with an English settler called John Rolfe and they both traveled back to England together but unfortunately she died when she was only 22!
Native Americans cloths were mostly made out of animal skins but some tribes began to learn how to make cloths out of plants! Most made their cloths out of deer, buffalo, bison, caribou, and even seal skin! Some even learned out to weave blankets and tunics this included the Navajo and Apache tribes!
