Kangaroos are about 6 feet tall (2 metres). Kangaroos belong to the animal family called Macropus, which means ”big foot”. The use of kangaroos strong tails is for balance while they’re jumping. Kangaroos live in Eastern Australia. Red kangaroos are the biggest kangaroos out of all of them. The female red kangaroos are lighter, faster and smaller then the males. A baby kangaroo is called a joey and when it is born it is only one inch long or it can be the size of a grape! Kangaroos can sometimes jump three times their own height, and believe it or not they can also swim. The male Kangaroo is called the boomer and the female is called the flyer.
Making electricity from wind is a wonderful idea. At the moment Denmark is one of the worlds leading countries in wind power electricity.Denmark also hopes to use wind power for half its countries electricity. Denmark hopes to achieve this by the year 2020.
Wind is free and never gets used up and because Ireland is an island, it has plenty of wind. Some of the best places to catch wind are on the sides of mountains and at sea. In Arklow, CO. Wicklow, a new company called Airtricity have started building a wind farm. When it is finished it will be one of the worlds largest wind farms. At the start of the project the locals were asked for their views on the project but believe it or not nobody protested. You would have thought somebody would have because wind farms are very loud and the locals could get annoyed at the noise.
Wind turbines look like huge aeroplane propellers on tall poles. The wind turbines produce no poisonous gases and will help Ireland not to rely as much on gas or oil, which will help our environment.
On Thursday night we began our journey, my dad, Kate (my sister), Tom (my brother) and I. We headed off to our granny and grandads so that we wouldn’t have to travel all the way up to Dublin airport from our house. In the morning we got up early so we could catch our flight. The plane wasn’t very boring because we each had TV’s in front of us. The first journey was from Dublin to Dubai. When we landed in Dubai we only stayed in the airport for about an hour and then it was off to Australia. The flight to Australia took ages and it was really hard to sleep on the plane but we managed. When we landed in Sydney airport my uncle picked us up (who lives in Australia). He drove us off to his apartment but his kids were staying in Newcastle so we didn’t see them, Not yet anyways…….
Day 1 – Australia
We woke up bright and early and headed straight to the beach. It was about 28 degrees. The first beach we went to was called ”Manly”. We didn’t actually go swimming there because the waves were far too big so we headed off to another one. The waves were huge in that beach too but our uncle said they were not usually that big. In most beaches in Australia the have pools on the beaches called ”ocean pools” which is basically just a pool somewhere along the beach with walls around it. They are really fun because all the waves come in to the pool. The waves were so big there that they knocked loads of people over. The waves knocked over an old lady and she fell backwards with the wave into another more shallow ocean pool. Another wave knocked over a lady with a child and they came out of the pool with blood down their arms but apart from that it was so fun. After that we had lunch and then played a bit of soccer. We hadn’t had a big lunch so our uncle brought us to a cafe and we ordered chips. They were the most delicious chips I have ever had. After a while we went to another few beaches and they were really fun. When we went home we had a barbecue for dinner and then played soccer in the park. Soon we headed off up to the apartment and went to bed.
Day 2 – Australia
Again we woke up nice and early and went off to the beach. We went swimming in the ocean pool and then went for a run along the sand and then went for another swim. Then my uncle showed us his house they were building which was only about two minutes away from the beach. After that we headed back to the apartment and then we went on the train to the shopping centre. By the way the temperature kept going up and down. In the morning it was only about 24 degrees and then it went up to 28 degrees and at some part of the day it was 32 degrees. Anyways we went to the shopping centre and got a few nice things and then went for ice cream. As we enjoyed our ice cream we walked back to the train station and went back to the apartment but we were locked out because my uncle wasn’t back from something to do with his job. We waited there for a while and then he finally arrived back on his skateboard. (He skateboards to work). We went inside and had our dinner and then watched some TV and went to bed.
Day 3 – Australia and New Zealand
We got up the next day and caught a taxi to get to Sydney airport to get to New Zealand. Our flight was at 11:35a.m. and we arrived in Auckland airport on time. We rented a car so that we could be independent on our holiday and we stopped for fish and chips. We ate it in a park so that we wouldn’t get the car we rented all crummy. When we were finished we drove to Rotorua which was where we were staying. we were staying in a motel. By the time we got there it was pretty late so we went to bed.
Day 4 – New Zealand
We woke up early again and had some breakfast. After breakfast we went swimming in the pool. It was a heated pool and was sooooooooooooooo warm. We stayed in that for quite a while and then headed off to a Gocart fun park which was sooo sooo fun. Next we went to our other granny and grandads house. They live in Taopo. We got there around 4:00p.m. It wasn’t very warm that day but it didn’t stop us from swimming in the lake which is really close to their house. It was really refreshing and soon we headed back to their house and more of our relations arrived. We had dinner, then played around and went off to bed.
Day 5 – New Zealand
I got up and had some breakfast and then everyone went for a walk. After our long walk we went back to the house, got our stuff and went into town. In town first we went swimming in the lake and then we went shopping. We wandered around the shops for a while and We went back to the house. Oh ya, That day was really, really hot even though it was only about 25 degrees. It felt much, much hotter though. Anyways when we got back to the house I realised I was really sun burnt. I still am and its really sore. When we got back we just did our own thing and my dads auntie then arrived. Later we had dinner. We had spagetti bolognaise and after we had chocolate chip ice cream with straw berries. After dinner we played a really fun board game, then we just did our own thing and then headed off to bed.
Day 6 – New Zealand
We woke up and it was 27 degrees. My Grandad took us to a place where they make electricity out of the steam coming up from the ground. We didn’t actually go into the place, we just drove around it so that we could see it and it was really cool. After that we went to the Huka Falls and the Huka Falls can fill five olympic swimming pools per minute with the water it lets out. Next we went to see a prawn park but again we didn’t go in we just drove around it. People are allowed to go fishing for prawns and the record for the biggest prawn was 46 centimetres!!!!! Soon it was time for lunch so we all went back to the house and had a roll and then my dad had to go and do some messages in town . We stayed at the house for a while and then my granny took us in to town and we went shopping again! I didn’t buy much. When we got back to the house our cousins from Australia arrived, they’re names are Milly and Grace. Milly is two and Grace is five. We played around with them for a while and then everyone went to the lake and the water was so nice. We stayed in for a while and in the water there is a raft so you can swim out to it and jump off it and stuff and it’s really fun. After our swim we all headed back for dinner, then went to bed and got ready for the new day.
Day 7 – New Zealand
My dad, Kate, Tom and I got up very early because we wanted to see my dads cousin (my second cousin) and her boyfriend start the “Half Ironman”. If anyones wondering the Ironman is a very, very long race that include: swimming, cycling and running. My second cousin and her boyfriend did half of that which is about:
The swim: 1.9km
The cycle: 90km
It started at 06:30a.m. and we arrived a tiny bit late so when we rushed down to see them start they were counting down 5, 4, 3, 2 , 1, BEEP!!!!!!!!!! We watched them finish the swim and then headed home. We went swimming in the lake and today it was about 29 degrees so the water was really nice. Soon everybody started getting cold so we went back for a quick lunch and then headed back into town to catch them finishing the ironman. It was so warm as we were standing waiting for them to finish that I could barely believe how people could do all this exercise on a day like today. While I was waiting I got myself an ice cream to cool myself down and soon they both came in through the finish line. We cheered them on and then went down to the lake so they could cool themselves down and we went in too. When we went back to the house I was really tired so I watched some TV for a while until dinner. Dinner was a barbeque and my sister and my granny earlier had made a cake so we had that for dessert. After dinner I watched TV again and then went to bed…..
Day 8 – New Zealand
Today was the big day that we all came for. We all woke up and got ready for my grannys party. It wasn’t a big party though. When people arrived the adults were just talking and then all of the kids had lunch. We had bread rolls and sausages and stuff. Then the adults had some food. After a while everyone went swimming in the lake again and then came back and had some dessert. It was really nice. There was brownie chocolate cake, cheese cake, chocolate chip ice cream, hokey pokey ice cream, loads of strawberries and cream and loads more… When everone had finished their food the adults turned on some music and then our younger cousins were dancing to it. It was really funny. After a while it was time to settle down and go to bed.
Day 9 – New Zealand
We woke up early as usuall and everyone headed off to ”Crators of the moon” which is where there is boiling mud. The mud boils because its a volcanic area. It was a forty minute walk and on the walk there was loads of pictures to take. All of the steam is from the boiling mud.
When we got back to the place where you pay we got an ice cream and as we got them a tiny tremor shook the floor from under us! (by the way a tremor is a miny earthquake). After we had eaten our ice creams we split up. Half the family went to town for coffee and my dad, Kate, Tom, my great aunt Margret and I went to get some food because later on at about 5:00p.m. we were going over to the house she was renting and having a drink. Well the adults were having a drink and we were just having orange juice. We also bought some crisps. When we got back home we went swimming in the lake. It was possibly the most fun day that we had had in the lake. We were jumping off the jetty and sliding on the raft. It was so fun and we stayed in for ages. After swimming we went over to Margrets and stayed there for a while and had the crisps and the orange juice. After that we went back to our house (well my granny and grandads house) and then had dinner. After dinner we still had dessert left from my grannys party so we had more dessert. Again after our food we put on music and then went to bed.
Day 10 - New Zealand
We all woke up early because my second cousin and her boyfriend were leaving (their names are Marrie – anne and Nick) . Before they left we all went for an early swim. It was another really fun time at the lake. We stayed there for quite a while and then headed back to say good bye to Marrie – anne and Nick. After we had done that we stayed a while at the house and then went into town. My granny took us in because my dad had to do more messages. First we went to the shoe shop and I got myself a nice pair of shoes and then we just hung around and went to more shops. After that we met up with my dad and headed too an outdoor swimming pool which was heated to 35 degrees!!! It was like a water park but all of the slides and stuff were closed down because they were fixing it up before the school summer holidays began, so we just swam in the pool that was open. Soon we got hungry so we went off to a shop and got something to eat and we also got a little present for Milly (one of my cousins) because we were celebrating her birthday the next day. It wasn’t actually her birthday, her birthdays on the 29th but we were celebrating it the next day so that we wouldn’t miss it. It was also my grannys real birthday the next day aswell. When we got back home we had dinner and again put on some music. We also had hot chocolate before we went to bed…

Day 11 – New Zealand
Today Milly woke up with a surprise. There was a birthday table full of presents. You see in our house back at home when its someones birthday the night before everybody (exept the birthday person) sets up a birthday table with balloons, presents and cards so we decided to set one up for Milly. When she woke up she was so excited and she loves peppa pig so she got loads of peppa pig things. She loved all of her presents. We also got my granny something. We got her a really nice photo frame with space for five pictures so we filled it with pictures of our family and she really liked it. After all of this we had breakfast and then went into town again because my dad had to get some supplies. We didn’t have to go but I just wanted to. Soon we headed back to the house, got our togs and went for a picnic by the lake but before we had our food we messed around in the water. After our picnic we lay in the sun for a while and then headed off to another bit of the lake (the bit we usually went to). We had a great time and as we were at the lake my auntie was baking a cake for Millie. Millie had been asking her mum for almost a year could she have a frog cake so thats what Millie got. After a while in the water we went back to the house for the cake. The cake was delicious!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After cake my dad told Tom , Kate and I to start packing because it was our last full day with our granny and grandad in Taopo for a couple more years. When we had the majority packed everyone went to the playground where there were two tennis courts. Some of us played tennis for a while (well actually for a long while) but not the little ones. After a bit of play in the playground or tennis in the tennis court we all went back to the house. While we were waiting for dinner I finished the rest of my packing. Soon it was dinner time and we had spaghetti bolinaise and it was so nice. After dinner we played around and then went off to bed.
Day 12 – New Zealand
Today was our last day at our granny and grandads house. We woke up early so that we could do things before we left. It wasn’t our last day in New Zealand though. When we woke up we ate our breakfast and then got into our togs to go for a swim. Today was probably the worst day we had – weather wise, but it was still fine. When we got to the lake I got in straight away and again we had an awesome time. Soon after swimming we all went home and had some early lunch. After lunch we had to start saying goodbye to all of our relatives and we all took family pictures. After that we went into town to print off some photos of the holiday. Then we started our 3 and a half hour journey to Auckland. Near the end of the journey we stopped for chips in KFC and ate them outside. After our chips we ended our journey and checked into our motel room. Our flight was the next day and we were only half an hour from the airport. When we were checked into the room we went to the walked to the local because as you know in motels you have to get your own food. When we had got our food and got back to our room we got ready for bed and then watched a bit of TV. Soon we went to bed to get ready for our long journey ahead of us.
Day 13 - New Zealand
We woke up early and went for a run on the beach. The beach was only 100 m from the motel. On the beach there was loads of nice houses along it. When we got back from the run we went swimming in the outdoor pool in the motel grounds. We had a short swim because we didn’t have a lot of time or else we would miss our flight. After our short swim we had our breakfast and then went to the airport. When we went through customs we went around the shops and I got a pair of earings. First we were going to Australia from New Zealand and we went with Quantas. It took about three and a half hours. When we landed in Australia we got our flight to Dubai which was about 13 and a half hours and again we went with Quantas. When we landed in Dubai it was about 1:00a.m. and we realised our next flight was at 7:00a.m. so we had 6 long hours to wait. We were all pretty hungry so my dad changed his money to dirhams which is what Dubai’s currency is called. My dad gave the man 20 euro and got back 95 dirhams. When we had got the money my dad bought us a pizza. It was really nice. When we had eaten that we walked around the airport and found some free seats that were like beds. Loads of people go to sleep on them and we were really tired so we did to. When we woke up we had about 2 hours left until or flight.
Day 14 New Zealand
On this flight we were with Emirates and the had bigger TVs then Quantas. THis flight was about 7 and a half hours but it felt much, much longer. When we landed saftely in Dublin airport my grandad (obviously my grandad in Ireland) and my cousin drove us too my grannys house. My granny gave us hot chocolate ant then I fell asleep. When we woke up at about 5:45p.m. we drove home. When we gt home my mum and my two sisters were sooooooooo excited to see us and they had the house all lovely and christmasy.
Thank You for reading my post, I hope you enjoyed it.
The first thing anyone should know about Abraham Lincoln is that he was the 16th American President and one of America’s greatest leaders. He was also the tallest American President and wore a tall hat that made him look even taller.
Abraham was born on February the 12th 1809 in the wild countryside, known as the backwoods in Kentucky. When he was aged of nine unfortunately Abraham’s mother died. Young Abraham worked alongside his father on the farm. He went to school for less than a year. He also loved to read books and sometimes walked long distances to borrow a book, because books were very rare back then. Abraham left his dad’s farm when he was twenty – two.
He married a lady named Mary Todd and studied law. Unfortunately a man shot him in the head and the next day (on April 15th 1865) he died .
Christopher Columbus was a great explorer and trader who was born in 1451. He was born in Genoa, Italy. Christopher Columbus is famous for his bravery crossing the Atlantic Ocean and reaching America. People say that he was the first person to reach America but it’s not true. The first person to reach America was actually a viking who reached it a few centuries back before Christopher Columbus. Christopher Columbus sailed west around the world instead of east which was where everyone else was going. When Christopher suggested going west to everyone they all thought he had cabin fever – not because they thought that the world was flat but because they all thought that the long journey would kill them. Sure enough Christopher still went the opposite route to all of them because he thought it would be easier and quicker. He was really bad at reading maps though and under – estimated how big the world actually was. If it wasn’t due to his poor map reading he would have never thought the route was possible and would never have reached America. Christopher Columbus died on May the 20th, 1506.
In the two day workshop it was really fun. We were learning about loads of interesting stuff such as Marketing, sole traders and much, much more. The dates of the workshop were the 11th and the 12th of November 2013. Our mentors name was Nicola and she was really nice.
The people in our group and our company name:
The people in my group were me, Amy, Barry, Cian and Deirbhile. Our company’s name was originally going to be called ABCD Productions because if you look at all of our names above in red you will see that the order of the first letters in each of our names in ABCD and Amy and I were going to share the A. Then Deirbhile and I thought that maybe it would be better if we changed it to something like: LCA Productions which the LCA stands for Lights, Camera, Action. We both thought that the third class (who were coming to watch our movies) would think it sounded a bit to babyish so then we all agreed to change it to LCA Productions.
All of our jobs:
Some teams had six people but our team only had five. Each team had six jobs so one person in our company had to do two. Barry was the one in our group who offered to do two so he was the VP of Finance who had to add up all of our money and he was also the VP of Production who makes the movie on line. By the way ”VP” stands for Vice Presidant. Amy was the VP of Design who helps the VP of Production (Barry) on the script. Cian was the VP of Sales who tries to sell tickets to the movie and. I was the VP of Marketing who designs the poster and does the commercial and stuff like that but of course with help from my team. Deirbhile was the Executive Producer who makes sure that everything is going smoothly and everyone is doing their jobs correctly.
On the first day of the workshop we were learning about how to make the movie and how to persuade people to buy our tickets and stuff and much more. On the second day we had to finish our movie and our posters and stuff.
Our movie was called Cowardly because it was about the guy who was a coward and he was afraid of little stuff like spiders and frogs and stuff like that. In our movie we had to have two scenes and the first scene in our movie was a spooky scene and the second one was a scene of a little wooden room. Our movie was a mixture of comedy, horror and adventure so it would suite everyones taste. In the end I think the first class really liked our movie.
The day the third class came in:
The day of the display thing was really fun. Deirbhile, Amy and I all designed our poster for it to advertise our movie. Our poster turned out quite good. In our commercial we made it about 30 seconds and Deirbhile and I were the only ones who wanted to do it and we did a really good job. In our commercial we had loads of drama and personally I think ours was the best one and so did Nicola. The day before all of this Nicola told us all to bring in merchandising. I baked chocolate chip cookies but they got burnt so I woke up early the next morning and quickly baked shortbread cookies. Deirbhile baked chocolate fudge brownies. When the third class came in they all got 20 biz bucks which were the money we used for all of this. They all got to go around to different stalls and buy tickets for the movies and buy baked goods. One stall had a lucky dip which I thought was a really good idea.
After their time was up they all sat down on the floor and each of our teams had to say how many tickets they sold. The winning team sold 11 tickets and in second place the team sold 10 tickets. Our team came third with a total of eight tickets. The winning team got to show their movie first and we had enough time to show all of the movies after. The team who made the most money was the same team who sold the most tickets and our team made the second most amount of money which was 183 biz bucks. At the end of the day Nicola gave out certificates . I found all of this a great experience.
Two people from each team had to go to the Venture Capitalist. We went to the Venture Capitalist before all of the movie and ticket things. Deirbhile and I went to the Venture Capitalist for our team and we did really well and sold four shares for 47 biz bucks. WE needed the 47 biz bucks for the movie and the advertisement. The Venture Capitalist was our principle and after the event he told us that Deirbhile and I were very professional which we liked to hear!
I loved this project and I give it 10 out of 10!
If I was to give some advice to people it would be: Enjoy it, be enthusiastic, listen and have loads of fun!
Thank You BizWorld!!!!!!!!!!!!
